Hot release: Maria V. Snyder’s Touch of Power

I am a HUGE fan of Maria V. Snyder. Huge! And so you can probably guess how excited I was when her newsletter showed up in my inbox last night, with the covers and first chapter of her upcoming book Touch of Power. I didn’t post anything last night since that didn’t seem right but now she’s posted the covers on her blog so I think it’s okay for me to post them here too. But before I do, here’s the synopsis:

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life….

And now for the covers! On the left, the U.S. cover and, on the right, the U.K. version. I definitely prefer the U.K. one. Avry looks much more powerful and mysterious in the U.K. cover. In the U.S. one, she looks kind of spacey and I’m not sure what she’s touching. I assume it’s someone’s hand with a weirdly bent thumb but who knows. How about you guys?

I’m going to order the U.K. version once it’s available at The Book Depository, for sure! (There’s a pre-order available now but I’m not sure which version it’s for since they don’t have a cover yet.) I can’t believe we have to wait until December 20 for this. It just sounds so fantastic!

Hey I got the newsletter too and had to share these lovely covers. 🙂

I have two of her books here to start two different series; Poison Study and Inside Out. I really want to get to them. But just keep running out of time.

Do you know if this one is in the same world and her Study & Glass series? I look forward to it. 🙂

It doesn’t sound like it’s set in the same world but I’m not entirely certain. I love the Study books so much – way more than her Glass books, in fact – but I haven’t tried Inside Out yet. I can’t recommend the Study books enough, though. I bought Poison Study on a whim when it first came out and thought it was just wonderful.
