Unclean Spirits (Black Sun’s Daughter #1) by M.L.N. Hanover
Unclean Spirits starts when Jayné Heller learns that her uncle has died and left her an inheritance. Upon arriving in Denver, she learns that she is now incredibly wealthy. She’s also thrown into the world of the supernatural when she learns about her uncle’s secret life – that he was trying to rid the world of a rider, a supernatural being who has possessed a human and stolen their body. Jayné is left to decide if she’ll take up where her uncle left off, or take the money and run. This being an urban fantasy novel, you can probably guess what she opts to do.
I picked this book up a while ago but it ended up sitting on my bookshelf for quite some time; it took me a while to get in the mood for it, I guess. I bought it mostly because I thought the cover was amazing, but I’m happy to say that that is just one of the many nice things about Unclean Spirits. The characters are interesting and the plot is decent, though somewhat predictable at certain points. It’s also the start of a series so I look forward to reading Darker Angels at some point.
