Archangel’s Kiss (Guild Hunter #2) by Nalini Singh
Archangel’s Kiss is the second installment in Elena and Raphael’s story, which first began in Angels’ Blood (reviewed here). It’s the fourth story that Nalini Singh has written in this world, and the third one I’ve read. (I talked about Angels’ Judgment here; the novella Angels’ Pawn is in my e-reader queue.) From here on out, there are spoilers for Angels’ Blood so stop reading if you don’t want to see them!
At the end of Angels’ Blood, Raphael Made Elena an angel. Archangel’s Kiss is about Elena learning how to be an angel, in the midst of dealing with assassination attempts and an invitation to a ball surrounded by zombies (or “the reborn” as they’re called in this story). Needless, to say, the book has a lot going on but it’s managed well and the story flows fairly seamlessly among the various plot threads. There’s also some nice development in Raphael and Elena’s relationship, as they negotiate her new position in the world, and as she grapples with the idea of immortality. We also get to learn a lot about angel politics, which was really neat.
I’m pretty excited to read Angels’ Pawn now. It involves one of Elena’s friends from the Guild (Ashwini) so it’ll be a slightly different story but hopefully just as satisfying.
